What is AI? Understanding the Basics and Beyond

Introduction

Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a word of the moment in the world today, where technology prevails. Be it in self-driven cars or virtual helpers like Siri or Alexa, Artificial Intelligence is there to completely revamp the interaction between technology and humans. But before all that, what exactly is Artificial Intelligence? Robotics: AI is also known to have put its hands in robotics. It had been intended for physical world tasks performed by machines, fully operating the AI-powered robots to transform complex human-like tasks performed in manufacturing, healthcare, automated distribution systems, and the like.

  • Narrow AI (Weak AI): This is the type of AI that is built to be able to accomplish a specific task. Virtual assistants, recommendation systems, and image recognition software are in this category. Narrow AI is omnipresent in our daily lives. It does its work very well within the limitations set by this narrowness.
  • General AI (Strong AI): A theoretical form of AI, it is possible to understand, learn and apply intelligence on many different tasks, on par with those of a human. This remains largely a concept and is yet to be materialized.
